Health Technician

The Health Technician serves as a member of the General Medical team assisting with patient care activities under the direction of the Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, or Chief. The position is responsible for expediting the care and treatment of patients and ensuring implementation of all requested diagnostic exams and performing routine and complex patient care duties. Assist physicians and/or Registered Nurses with procedures such as obtaining supplies necessary for physician to perform procedure, stocking the supply cart appropriately, and obtaining miscellaneous supplies from unit stock room or SPD; assist the registered nurse with IV insertion and removals; assist with tracheostomy suctioning and care; participates in performance improvement activities that may require monitoring and collecting data; responds appropriately and sensitively to death and dying patients, their families and loved ones; knowledge of paperwork and legal aspects of care of the dead including respectful postmortem care of the deceased and transfer to the morgue; perform EKG at the bedside when ordered. Must be able to correctly apply electrodes for 12- lead EKG, obtain EKG print out and report immediately to the physician, RN staff and/or Charge Nurse; observes patients for vision, speech, or hearing impairments. Able to determine if a patient is ambulatory, requires a wheelchair, is bedridden, alert or confused, continent or incontinent; insert Foley catheters, utilizing aseptic technique, as ordered by physician. Empties and records drainage from Foley catheter. Perform Foley catheter maintenance. Set up rooms for admissions, canisters/suction in place, oxygen connection, IV pumps. Provides direct nursing care in compliance with organization standards, policies, procedures and guidelines. Provides care to the patient to meet physical and psychological needs. Recognizes emergency situations and takes necessary actions. Preparing specimens for analysis and/or dispatch to reference laboratories, ensuring the physiologic state of the specimen is maintained. Performs specialized patient sample collections per individual laboratory requirements such as Blood Culture, Blood Bank Specimen Verification, and other specialized sample collections. Adheres to established protocols for ensuring correct patient identification and sample collection, including age and patient safety criteria. Performs blood collection using a variety of phlebotomy techniques including vacutainer system, syringe, butterfly or capillary finger sticks. Provides direct nursing care in compliance with organization standards, policies, procedures and guidelines. Provides care to the patients to meet their physical and psychological needs. Recognizes emergency situations and takes necessary action. Work Schedule:

The incumbent must be able to lift 35 lbs., perform the following:
pulling, pushing, reaching above the shoulders and laterally, use of fingers, both hands, arms, and legs, sitting, walking, and standing for long periods. Also, he/she must able to hear whispered voices (with or without a hearing aid), kneeling, repeated bending, ability for rapid mental/muscular coordination simultaneously, visual requirements for monitoring observation, depth perception, and ability to distinguish shades of color due to equipment wiring. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. GS-07 grade level:
One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes:

Individual Occupational Requirements:
A. Education:
To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed one (1) full year of graduate education (or 18 semester hours). NOTE:

Internship in course matter that must include courses directly related to the work of the position such as anatomy and physiology, and aseptic techniques. . Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
