The position is responsible for coordinating, testing, maintenance and troubleshooting at the Tier 2 and Tier 3 levels, maintaining and administering assigned systems, associated IT equipment, software and numerous network attached devices ensuring compliance with Coast Guard standards. Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include:
Serving as the System Administrator of desktop and server operating systems with overall responsibility for all systems and applications remaining patched and operating systems are protected from vulnerabilities. Analyzing and reviewing LAN utilization statistics, performance measures, and system profiles to ensure integrity and availability of the network. Identifies potential performance or capacity problems and plans changes to avert future problems. Maintaining telephone connections between unit PBX and user's desks, ensuring all wiring, terminations, assignments, and the reliability of the infrastructure. Installing, repairing, and maintaining printers, document senders, network scanners, and copiers. Serving as the technical expert for the local helpdesk, help ticket system and user accounts. Communicating to the team, as directed by the Department Head, the assignments, projects, actionable events, milestones, and/or program issues under review, deadlines, and periods for completion, making adjustments to ensure timely accomplishment of assignments. To qualify for the GS-11 Grade Level:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level (in the Federal sector). Examples of specialized experience include:
using IT policies, standards and guidelines in order to provide guidance on a range of IT issues; conducting analyses of systems and recommending resolutions and developing new methods, approaches and procedures; completing system component integration, testing and evaluation methods and procedures; mitigating security vulnerabilities and risks and improving system reliability. OR at least one of the following if using education to qualify at this grade level:
(A) a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. OR (B) 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. if related. OR (C) A combination of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in or related to the work of this position AND education graduate level education that provided the specific knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position and experience. Experience and education combinations are computed by first determining the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the total of qualifying education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at that grade level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. In addition, applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience):
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
