Description: The Engineering Associate II independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. Assignments have clear and specific objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables. Must be competent with transportation design resources such as Microstation, Inroads and/or Geopak, HEC-RAS, and other Engineering tools. ALDOT, GDOT, MDOT, and TDOT project experience a plus.
Duties: 1. Assuring that all engineering work performing by individual or under his direct supervision adheres to good engineering practices.
2. Assisting in preliminary design studies, project planning, and other activities that lead to the design of a project.
3. Assisting in the preparation of specifications, cost and material estimates, reports, and engineering studies.
4. Preparing original designs based upon criteria furnished by the supervisor and complying with applicable codes and regulations.
5. Preparing design, detail, and layout drawings and design sketches.
6. Checking and assuming responsibility for work done under his/her supervision.
7. Checking designs prepared by others.
8. Utilizing computers and CAD in the design effort.
9. Selecting suitable materials and equipment.
10. Maintaining liaison with vendors and others.
11. Utilizing computers and CAD in the design effort.
12. Direct the effort of designers/drafters working on a design for which the Engineering Associate II is responsible.
13. Following company policies and procedures regarding safety and quality.
Qualifications: Minimum Requirements
1. A bachelor-s degree in engineering from an accredited institution. EIT preferred.
2. The ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
3. Two to four years of engineering experience with credit for one year given to Masters Degree in Engineering. Demonstrated ability to perform at this level.
Physical Requirements
1. Must be willing to work flexible schedules and overtime as needed by the department needs.
2. Must be able to operate a computer and related office equipment and sit for long periods of time.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
