SUMMARY
Directs and coordinates the activities to ensure adherence to budgets, schedules and manpower requirements.Responsible for safety, schedule, budget and quality of all assigned work. Responsible for administering discipline to assigned employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :Other duties may be assigned.
Works one on one with leadermen and/or hourly employees to improve knowledge levels in selected subjects/processes, including mechanical and safety.
Reviews production schedules to ensure product data such as types, quantities, specifications of materials and scheduled delivery dates are in order to plan operations.
Responsible for making calls as to which equipment to utilize in certain processes and improve process to save time and material.
Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences of craft work duties.
Prepares production schedules, progressing reports, and coordinates department activities to ensure production and quality of work performed meets specifications.
Reviews production reports and resolves issues in the area of craft performance, production schedules, manning projections, budget requirements, etc., to ensure costs and production delays are minimized and area is operating at optimal level. Has profit/loss responsibility and accountability for craft projects.
Responsible for ensuring all machinery and equipment is inspected and maintained for specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
Trains and insures leadermen and craft workers adhere to department related procedures and work instructions.
When work load dictates, accepts and manages assigned project as lead leaderman.
Executes company policies and enforces safety and environmental regulations, calling upon Human Resources if there is ever a question about fairness, legality or past precedent.
Develops and maintains standard operational and working practices.
Observes workers to ensure compliance with following appropriate procedures in the areas of production, accuracy control, safety, and quality assurance. Responsible for training and monitoring the proficiency, of assigned workers.
Responsible for implementing and maintaining lean manufacturing and 5S concepts throughout area of responsibility. Periodically performs audits to ensure compliance with concepts.
Expected to foster a climate and to generate continuous improvement in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of machinist department.
Resolves worker complaints and submits unsettled complaints to Production Superintendent for action.
Compiles, stores and retrieves production data.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization''s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 5 years shipyard experience as a supervisor over new construction and/or repair, with proven problem solving and decision making skills. Minimum of 8 to 10 years experience in shipbuilding, ship repair or similar construction industry.
Hands on Outside Machinist with some Inside Machinist experience preferred.
Experience with the startup and commissioning of systems required.
Must havethorough knowledge of USCG, ABS, and other guidelines/specifications/requirements.
