Quality Metallurgist - Mobile, AL - Premier stainless steel manufacturing company seeks to hire Quality Metallurgist for their state-of-the-art mini-mill near Mobile, AL.
Responsibilities for the Metallurgical Engineer
This position has no people-management responsibilities. The monetary impact of this position is to ensure customer satisfaction, which can be measured by the number of claims and internal rejections.
Conduct analyses of processed slabs/coils in all process steps up to finished goods in regards of melt shop influenced defects
Collect quality information and conduct quality reportingIdentify quality problems or defects and recommend solutionsInterpret test results and compare them to established specifications and control limits, change procedures if necessary
Investigate quality claims to determine causes of defectsCommunicate with other departments about quality performance
Requirements for the Metallurgical Engineer
BS Material Science or Metallurgical Engineering. May consider other engineering degrees coupled with metallurgical experience.
1-10 years experience in steel, metals or foundry
Experience in the Melt Shop, Casting, Annealing & Pickling, Cold Rolling, Finishing highly desired.
Can-do attitude, enjoys engaging Operators on the shop floor, strong collaborations skills but also able to work independently solve problems
Proficient knowledge of metallurgical reactions between steel and slag/stone
